History

The founder of Healing Hearts, Sherry Hart, knows firsthand the excruciating pain and helplessness one feels after losing a child.  On May 16, 1981 Sherry gave birth to a 9 1/2 pound baby boy, Clint Cagle, who died after only one week of life from difficulty breathing.  Though she will never completely overcome the loss of Clint, Sherry discovered that her healing came through connecting with others who had lost children, and talking about Clint as a way of keeping his memory alive.

Through her own healing process, Sherry has realized that bereaved parents often feel like they cannot comfortably talk about their experience, and as a result, keep their grief bottled up inside.  Sherry also noticed that that it was as if God continued to place people in her life who had lost children, so she could talk to them about their loss.  That was when Sherry realized that she needed to find an organized way to reach out to other bereaved parents, so she could continue her ministry of child-bereavement healing.

Sherry's operation is very "home-grown" in nature.  What started as one woman with a calling to minister to grieving parents, has blossomed into a full-scale operation staffed by local volunteers.  When first informed of someone who has lost a child, Sherry and her team send out a sympathy card, and a package containing two books that help with the healing process.  Then, each following year, on the deceased child's birthday, and on the date of the child's death, Sherry's team sends out a card to the chlid's parents, as a way of keeping the Child's memory alive.

Sherry invites bereaved parents to connect with us by filling out the Bereaved Parent Form on our site, and invites other friends and family who support the cause to fill out the Volunteer Form to find out what they can do to support our mission.
